The Charie Family – 2005 Newsletter  

The Charie site is now almost one year old and this is the first newsletter by email!

For many years, in December, you probably received a newsletter from Harry Charie bringing the latest news of the Charie family. Researching the family was Harry's passion, and the newsletter was an annual attempt to share this with the family, as well as update the family with news, births, marriages and deaths.

When Harry wished to "retire", I decided to put his research on a website - http://www.charie.co.uk  - as it would be a shame if his work were lost for future generations. The website was launched early in 2005 – it was my first attempt, I'm not a professional, it is an amateur effort.

The site now has a brief history of the Charie family , an index of all known family members , past and present, and family trees, starting with Tree 1 – the first known ancestors . All family members are coded using Harry's original system – a letter for the generation, starting with A and moving down the generations to L. Each person has a number within the generation. Where family members have their own website, then this is linked from their entry on the family trees. I have also collected a list of email addresses, but these are not published to protect privacy – if you wish to contact someone, then email the site and if I have an address then I will pass it on.

Family interest in Harry's work on our behalf has always been mixed, this is as you would expect, some very involved, some not and one that I am aware of, vociferously against (although no-one knows why). Interest in the website has been similar. There was an initial flurry of activity, particularly the new email accessibility and some valuable new update information. Since then it has settled to occasional “hits” on the site and, from time to time, out of the blue, a much valued new contact. Please visit the site if you can and share it with any other family members with whom you are in contact. Now that the site is built, it is easy to maintain, provided that I have the information. I am not a natural “researcher”, like Harry and in any event, most of the obvious seams of information have already been mined, so the maintenance of the family “archive” depends largely upon information from family members.

I would value corrections or suggestions plus any information you have on the family, particularly any email addresses or web sites. Births, marriages, deaths that I have learned since Harry's last newsletter are shown below.
