The Charie Family – 2006 Newsletter

This is the second emailed Xmas Newsletter since the Charie site went on line February 2005.

The Charie family site has had over 1600 visits (“hits”) so far and attracts contact, both from newly discovered Charie family members and some who have lost touch. Improvements over the year include a general tidy up, a foreword from Harry (most of the research into the Charie family was done by Harry - H1 - over several decades) and a printable "pdf" file of the entire family tree was added.

Computers have such a long reach and bring many new opportunities for discovery and contact. Earlier this year brought such development - Claudius Adrian Charie, our earliest proven ancestor - Tree 1 – is elusive, so little is known other than the date of his marriage and the names of (some?) of his children. Then a search threw up a record from an Old Bailey trial in 1772 naming him as the victim of a theft. There has always been the thought that Claudius was a jeweller, as were his descendants and the items stolen, silver plate, tend to support this.

More and more archives are coming on line and searches have revealed several new ancestors, some of which can already be slotted into thefamily tree, whilst several more await clarification.

Computers can also bring families closer. As I mentioned last year, I have collected a list of email addresses, but these are not published to protect privacy – if you wish to contact someone, then email the site and if I have an address I will pass it on to them. Email however, is almost “old hat” now many family members have “Skype”, which is an excellent way to keep in touch – free calls, video calls and chat. I'm listed on Skype if you wish to make contact and a simple search will find me plus several other “Charies.”

The number of countries which have become home to Charie family members continues to grow. Harry's son, Ian ( J1 ) and family relocated to near Boston , USA this year and in the New Year, my eldest daughter, Emma ( J10 ) plus family, move to Adelaide , Australia . There has been contact over the year from family members in all the main countries.

Please visit the site if you can and share it with any other family members with whom you are in contact. Now that the site is built, it is easy to maintain, provided that I have the information and this depends largely upon information from family members so I would value any information from you .
