The Charie Family – 2008 Newsletter In 2008 Harry Charie (H1) and his wife Margery (H2) celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary with their family and friends, including several members of their branch of the Charie family. As you know, Harry was responsible for almost all of the research that forms the basis of the knowledge used in the Charie site . Harry's original work was “published” in a series of books, the first in 1985. During 2008, Harry's son, Paul (J3) , scanned the three books into PDF format. PDF files take up a lot of webspace, more than I had available from my service provider, but early in the year, I managed to get Harry's 1999 book, “Millennium Update” , on the site. Later in 2008, I was able to add the original 1985 work, “Charie – Our Family Tree” . You can access them on the Charie site, or download them. The third book, “Charie Family in World War II”, is not on the site, but if anyone would like a copy, then please let me know and I will email it. Many thanks to Paul for his efforts which have enabled me to make Harry's work available to the family and interested spectators worldwide. All family records, plus many more, are now available at The National Archives , at Kew .. There is some information on line, but much more if you visit the office. I went there during the year and it is very simple to access the information, the only problem being, once you get going, you could spend days there! During the year I have managed to add a few more names and fill a few more gaps in the family trees but, at the moment, I am short of information/updates upon two branches – Leslie Charie's (J55) family, in and from South Africa, Tree 7 , plus the descendents of Robert Ronald (J31) , Tree 6. If anyone can help with contact, or information, please let me know. Any information which increases the knowledge of the Charie Family is always most welcome, so please send anything you have, or stumble across. Also, my list of list of email addresses continues to grow, but these are not published to protect privacy – if you wish to contact someone, then email me, or the site, and if I have an address, I will pass it on.
