The Charie Family – 2009 Newsletter

2009 seems to have been a quiet year on the Charie family front with few births, marriages, or deaths reported from anywhere in the world (I wonder...?).

For the site, it is a different matter, very few months go by without an email coming "out of the blue" from a family member, or more commonly, a related family - so many people seem to be tracing their family past these days. These contacts nearly always bring new information for the trees:

Right at the start of the year, Vanessa Williams nee Charie (J40), who did some work with Harry some years ago and has been continuing her own research from her home in Cyprus, came up with much additional information for the early trees.

Also early in the year, following my requests for up to date information upon the family branch in South Africa, Julie (K12) filled me in (via facebook) and Tree 7 now shows this information.

Then Alan Wildblood - Alan keeps the website for the Wildblood family ( Margery Charie (H2) is a Wildblood), sent me a record from the Herefordshire Assizes-- of 1845, which shows a Charles Charie being sentanced to two months for Larceny. The Trees show a couple of Charles around at that time - one aged 44 (for-whom records are scant) and one aged 9 (who has descendants). Who knows?

Vickie Beamish (Slogrove) researches the Slo(w)grove family and found links to our family back to Ann Amelia Charie (D30) who married Francis Slowgrove in 1853.

Then in December, Jacquie Walsh contacted via Genes Reunited, looking for information upon her grandmother Grace Emma Smith (nee Charie) (G76) , came upon the-site during efforts to trace her father's family. Grace, orphaned as a child, had a tough life and spent some time as a child in Canada with her elder brother, Charles (G47) and has, I believe had email contact with his grandchildren.

Any information which increases the knowledge of the Charie Family is always most welcome, so please send anything you have, or stumble across. Also, my list of email addresses continues to grow, but these are not published to protect privacy – if you wish to contact someone, then email me, or the site, and if I have an address, I will pass it on.

Births, marriages, deaths that I have learned since the last newsletter, are shown below.

Wishing you and your families a Merry Christmas and a happy 2010.

Kind regards

Keith Charie
